Relief work during
COVID 19 Pandemic.
Kaash Foundation and the Mumbai Police:
The full day Nationwide Curfew on 22 March 2020 and the 5.00 pm Sound exercise was successful. As I came out in the evening, in my next lane to pick up hand sanitizer from the local chemist shop, I saw few bikers arguing with the cops at Nakabandi near the bridge of kora Kendra Borivli West, Mumbai. I picked up few requirements from the medical shop and also packets of Juice and walked straight to the site of police Nakabandi. The cops saw me and requested me to go back home. I assured them I will return back and handed them the packet of juice. They were stunned with that gesture and asked me my details. They told me they were performing their duty since 8.am and it was a 7.30 pm now. I thanked them for their relentless duties as I inquired with them about their dinner, they responded of its uncertainty.
I returned back home safely, but with a heavy heart. I spoke to the children of my apartment and told them that we need to collect food for the cops on duty and asked the kids to request our neighbours to give some homemade food. Most of the members in my Palm Springs apartments, Borivli west, responded with affirmation. By 9.00 pm we had more than enough collection of food.
We divided it into three parts and left for our role of offering gratitude to these unsung heroes of the city. Finally we were able to distribute food at three places, at Kora Kendra Nakabandi, Poinsur Kandivli West Nakabandi and Chikuwadi Borivli Link Road Nakabandi.
The staff at each Nakabandi was overwhelmed with this gesture of the citizens of the city. The hot and fresh homemade food was to make them feel
‘though they are away from their home, they still have people who care and have concerns for them’.
As one of the lady officers commented ‘Since afternoon I could not take break, this gesture is enough to motivate us further to do our duty at night also ‘.
One of the on duty constable said ‘ People have been arguing with us the entire day, and we were annoyed and tired, but this gesture has strengthen our belief that our services do not go unacknowledged’.
A small act of kindness can go a long way.
The motto of Mumbai police is
सद्रक्षणाय खलनिग्रहणाय “To protect Good and to destroy Evil”.
Saluting the Mumbai police. Real Heroes.
Kaash Foundation and Relief work during COVID 19 Pandemic in Mumbai.
Most of us are united in tackling the deadly disease of Corona and are Safe at home.
But there are many Daily wage workers, Mathadi workers, Small time hawkers,
Homeless and shelter less etc.Their savings have exhausted and are finding it difficult to get the basic commodities. Kaash Foundation as a Mumbai based registered NGO took the initiative of providing two ways support to such people through our volunteers and networks.
- Food grains Packets: Rice, Oil, Dal, Atta (Flour), soap, sugar and biscuits.
- Cooked Food: Hygienically prepared food to the homeless and shelter less as packaged food, along with a fruit.
Kaash Foundation has reached so far to more than 200 families with the provisions of providing food grains for next 15 days and serving two meals a day to 600 people daily for more than fifteen days. The relief work was carried out from Malad to Dahisar in Mumbai. Most of the inhabitants of the slums live in the situation of hand to mouth. The packed ration was handed over by maintaining safe social distance and with utter discipline. There was request from some people to provide cooked food and so the foundation started a small initiative of community kitchen. This was especially for those who had no provisions to cook. The foundation would like to thank all the donors who encouraged us in this initiative.
