a raised platform for struggling women
Kala Ghoda Arts Festival
Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is the country’s largest multicultural festival, taking place in February each year. The Festival draws visitors in large numbers, not just from the city but from all over the country, and the world. The Kaash Foundation team inaugurated a stall at this highly acclaimed Kala Ghoda Festival from 6th February to 9th February 2020, it was called the “Stall No. 70”
Before the setting up of this stall, a skill development programme was conducted for women of Katarkhadak and Khamboli where they were trained with special skills and fine motor skill of jewellery making – the kind of jewellery made by them is called “junk jewellery” and this jewellery was sold in the Kala Ghoda Stall.
This Stall helped Kaash Foundation to provide a raised platform for these struggling women compared to the regular market in the village, where their sale struggled due the fact that people in and around that area did not always have the kind of money to spend on a luxury like jewellery. On the other hand, now, on a regular basis, these women receive personalised orders for making jewellery as the junk jewellery is very popular and trending amongst the young girls and make for a perfect gift.
The main objective of the programme was to empower the rural and tribal India, and this aim was met as the women of these areas no longer felt helpless, or useless, and had a source of income.
Along with this, the stall at Kala Ghoda was great to spread awareness, about the need to empower not only the rural area, but also the women of these areas.
